Features & Topography

The Hamada was a coastal cargo ship that caught fire and sank near Abu Ghosoun in 1993. Today, the wreck rests on a sandy slope in calm and shallow waters, making it one of the most accessible shipwrecks in the Red Sea.

The ship structure is still largely intact and offers exciting opportunities for exploration. Divers can swim through open cargo holds, observe the engine room, and discover various entry points along the hull.

Over the years, the wreck has transformed into an artificial reef, now covered with colorful hard and soft corals. Behind the wreck lies a healthy reef slope with coral blocks, sandy areas, and seagrass patches that continue into the open bay.

The shallow depth provides excellent natural light, making Abu Ghosoun an outstanding site for underwater photography and long, relaxed dives.

Marine Life

The Hamada Wreck and surrounding reef attract a wide variety of marine life, both around the structure itself and in the nearby coral gardens.

Common marine life includes:
🐟 Large schools of glassfish sheltering inside the wreck
🦁 Lionfish and scorpionfish hiding between metal structures
🐢 Green turtles cruising near the reef and seagrass beds
🐠 Parrotfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish, and goatfish
🐙 Moray eels and octopus hidden in small crevices

The combination of wreck atmosphere and healthy coral life makes every dive at Abu Ghosoun unique and full of discovery.
